I’ve been working on a passion project… a book about my life overseas. 📙
I know my story will entertain and inspire many. I didn’t start this project to tell the half-truth so there are parts that will be difficult for my family to read, 😬 but a lot of people will identify with the characters inside the pages. 🥰
I’ve been in Thailand the past few months to revisit the place that launched my permanent expat life. Much has changed… much is the “same same”. 🇹🇭
“The first thing I noticed upon landing in Phuket was the smell, a mix of garlic, chili so strong you couldn’t breathe… and sewage. The shit smell radiated from the drains on the streets and even the overwhelming chili couldn’t mask it. Another immediate concern was that nobody spoke English, like nobody, and the writing was characters, not letters. I had done minimal research on my new home, and the Lonely Planet book hadn’t mentioned the sewage or language situation.”

“Other things I noticed were power lines randomly hung, or cut and others just lying in the street. I’d never seen so many people on motorbikes. There were families of four including a baby and a dog on one bike zipping through traffic with no helmets. It was total chaos and unlike any other place I’d been, not that I’d been much of anywhere yet.”

Facing The Sun is releasing September 2026. 🌞
